This presentation will review the current diagnostic categorization of eating disorders, highlighting changes in DSM-5.  The epidemiology, risk factors, trajectory, and prognosis of eating disorders will be presented.  There will be a particular focus on family-based treatment of anorexia and bulimia in youth, with empirical support for these treatments and the role of medication.  Resources for clinician training in these treatment approaches will be provided, as well as resources for patients and families.
 
By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Describe DSM-5 diagnostic categorization of eating disorders
  • Identify risk factors, trajectory, and prognosis of eating disorders
  • Describe the structure of family-based therapy for anorexia and bulimia
  • Summarize the empirical evidence for the role of medication in treatment
This intermediate presentation has a target audience of clinicians.
Sandy Bowersox, PhD, HSPP
Sandy Bowersox is a pediatric psychologist at St. Mary’s Center for Children in Evansville, IN, where she has been in a primarily clinical role since 2009.  Dr. Bowersox currently sees children and adolescents for outpatient therapy and assessment, and she directs the inpatient Pediatric Consultation/Liaison Service at St. Mary’s Medical Center.  Dr. Bowersox specializes in working with youth with eating disorders as well as those living with chronic medical illness.  She received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from St. Louis University and completed an internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Cancellations:
