Comments from the Communication Chair
Hello Members of IPA!
I am so excited to take Aarika's spot as Chair of the Communication Committee! She has prepared me well! For January’s meeting, Julie Steck hosted our meeting at her splendid, renovated farmhouse where we enjoyed a glass of wine as we discussed the Communication Committee’s goals for 2020. We had a great time catching up, sharing ideas, and welcoming two new members: Vickie Dalton from Indiana Health Group, and Teri Krakovich from Mind Body Autism, LLC.
Getting down to business, our goals are to communicate the value of IPA membership to psychologists, and communicate the value of psychology to Hoosiers. IPA has many strengths with our talented and dedicated volunteers topping the list. So, our plan for 2020 is to communicate using a more targeted approach. A clear message directed at a desired audience equals greater impact and greater respect of our volunteers’ time and talents.
Toward that goal, if any of you have an inspired idea or feedback, please send me a quick note at chapleau@iupui.edu. I’d love to hear from you!
Cheers!

Dr. Poulakis came to Indiana as an international student in 1992 from Athens Greece. He completed his BA, MA and PsyD from UINDY. Dr. Poulakis went back to Greece in 2002 to serve in the military and then came back to Indianapolis to be with his wife in 2005. He has been teaching for UINDY since then. He teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. His research is focused on diversity and multiculturalism issues. Dr. Poulakis currently has 10 dissertation advisees, and he feels lucky because they are brilliant. The idea that he can guide them and help them graduate is invigorating and rewarding. In his free time, he relaxes by fixing computers, reading financial books and magazines, and escaping at the movies. Dr. Andrea (Ande) Williams
Dr. Ande Williams has joined IPA as a Student Member-Post Doc in her first year of an Adult Clinical Neuropsychology Fellow at IU School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Williams’ professional interests are in adult neuropsychological assessment, pre-surgical evaluations, and the integration of neuropsychology into medical clinics (e.g., primary care). She enjoys working with older adults and individuals with movement disorders or chronic pain. With regard to areas of expertise, she would say she is a ‘jack of many trades, but master of none.’
Dr. Williams stated that after being involved with IPA throughout her graduate training at ISU, she is happy to reconnect to the organization and begin my post-doctorate career back here in Indiana. Although, in her non-professional endeavors she has stayed true to her Kentucky roots; maintaining a passion for horses (specifically, American Saddlebreds) and continuing to ride and compete in saddleseat competitions. Former IPA President Dr. Christopher Sullivan
Former IPA president, Butler University professor, and neuropsychologist Dr. Christopher Sullivan died on January 20, 2020. He was 58 years old. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Sullivan was a tenured associate professor at Butler University, where he taught and conducted research for 13 years. He also worked as a senior scientist for two years at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Dr. Sullivan was in private practice at Neuropsychology Associates from 1998 until his death, where he developed a reputation amongst his referral sources, which included attorneys, physicians, and mental health providers, as a knowledgeable and experienced clinician. He was sought after by attorneys for his thorough knowledge of research, and frequently served as an expert witness. Dr. Sullivan provided assessment and therapy with children and adults, and was highly respected and appreciated by his patients and colleagues as a caring, compassionate, and supportive clinician. As the NFL Neuropsychology Consultant to the Indianapolis Colts, Dr. Sullivan was highly regarded by the players and team staff. He also conducted baseline testing with the athletes attending the NFL Combine. Dr. Sullivan served as a mentor to many early career neuropsychologists, several of whom he brought into his practice. As a colleague, he was always available for a consultation, a teaching moment, and a humorous anecdote.
Dr. Sullivan is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Roxy Sullivan of Indianapolis, and his two cherished children Brittany (James) Crichlow of Spain and Andrew of Indianapolis.
