“Navigating Sexual Concerns in the Perinatal Period”
Presented by Maria Papachrysanthou Hanzlik, PsyD, HSPP – Maria P. Hanzlik, LLC

Individuals are sexual beings throughout the lifespan, including during pregnancy and into the postpartum period. As such, couples can continue to have healthy sexual functioning during pregnancy and into the postpartum period; however, because certain barriers may interfere with healthy sexual functioning, couples may not feel able or willing to address such concerns with their health care providers, including psychologists and counselors.

This webinar will explore how biological, psychological, and social role changes that occur specifically during the perinatal period can affect sexual functioning in individuals and couples. This webinar will also include case vignettes demonstrating how to incorporate specific interventions to improve couples’ quality of sexual intimacy during the pregnancy and post-partum periods.

By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe how fertility challenges can impact sexual function during preconception, pregnancy, and in the postpartum period.
  2. Describe biological, psychological, and social changes that can interfere with sexual functioning at each trimester of pregnancy.
  3. Identify 2 interventions to use with couples to improve sexual intimacy during the pregnancy and postpartum period
This introductory presentation has a target audience of clinicians, residents, students, and interns.
