Program Description
This presentation focuses on introducing diagnoses and evidence-based treatment options for eating disorders. After reviewing the significance and risk factors for eating disorders, DSM-5 diagnoses will be described, along with how to assess specific symptoms and criteria for eating disorders. Next, evidenced-based treatments will be briefly reviewed, including their rationale , treatment goals and targets, as well as some techniques.

Presenter
Cari Pearson Carter, Ph.D., HSPP

Cari Pearson Carter, PhD, HSPP is a clinical psychologist and owner of Carter Psychology, a private practice focusing on treating eating disorders, anxiety, and stress on the northside of Indianapolis. Dr. Pearson Carter has specialized in the field of eating disorders for 10 years, publishing over 20 peer-reviewed scientific articles and receiving training at some of the top eating disorder centers in the world. Dr. Pearson Carter is passionate about using evidenced based treatments for her clients and keeping up to date with the latest cutting edge research. As such, she is an active member of the Research-Practice Committee for the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and continues to collaborate with academic eating disorder colleagues, including those at UCSD, University of Minnesota, and Drexel University.

Dr. Pearson Carter completed her PhD at the University of Kentucky and her predoctoral internship at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Eating Disorder Center for Treatment and Research. She was also awarded and completed the NIMH-funded Midwest Regional Postdoctoral Training Grant in Eating Disorders Research at the University of Minnesota.
