Evidenced-Based Treatment of PTSD: Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy
This webinar will focus on two gold-standard, evidence-based practices to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in adult populations: Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). The theory and structure of each treatment protocol, their similarities and differences, and diversity considerations will be covered. Clinical presentation factors to consider when choosing which treatment is appropriate, as well as integration of treatments into practice will all be considered.
Learning Objectives
By completing this program, participants will able to:
1. Summarize the theory and techniques of evidence based treatments for PTSD
2. Discuss the differences between Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
3. Describe how to integrate PE and CPT in practice with diverse adult populations.
Presenter Bio: Elizabeth (Ellie) Miskiel, Psy.D, HSPP
Dr. Miskiel is a clinical psychologist and a graduate of Adler University Clinical Psychology Program with an emphasis in Military Clinical Psychology. She is currently a member of the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team and Trauma Recovery Services at the Roudebush VAMC where she focuses on providing evidenced based trauma focused treatments to Veterans. She specialized in PTSD treatment during her internship and has experience treating military, sexual, and childhood trauma in individual and group formats. Dr. Miskiel is a VA certified provider in Cognitive Processing Therapy. As a member of the Roudebush Psychology Training Committee, Dr. Miskiel has regular opportunities to provide supervision and training on trauma focused assessment and treatment to pre-doctoral psychology interns.

Presenter Bio: Nichole L. Rose-Freeman, Psy.D, HSPP
Dr. Rose-Freeman is a clinical psychologist in the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team and Trauma Recovery Services at the Roudebush VAMC. She has recently taken on the role of PTSD/Substance Use Disorder specialist in which she focuses on dual diagnosis treatment of PTSD and Substance Use Disorders both clinically and via consultation with other programs in the VAMC. Before her current position, she was a PTSD/Substance Use Disorder specialist at Battle Creek VAMC working both in a residential PTSD program and an outpatient PTSD Clinical Team. She specialized in PTSD during her internship and residency and has treated a wide variety of trauma experiences including combat, military sexual trauma, and childhood trauma, in both group and individual therapy formats. Dr. Rose-Freeman is a VA certified provider in Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Written Exposure Therapy, and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation. In addition to her clinical role, she is a member of Roudebush's Psychology Training Committee and has an active role as a supervisor of pre-doctoral interns.
