This presentation will explore the definition of specific learning disabilities, and specifically dyslexia. This will include a review of article 7, response to intervention, and individualized education programs. The presentation will also provide an overview of school requirements regarding the new law related to dyslexia including information on the screening process and recommended approaches used during the intervention for students falling below benchmark.
Dr. Anna Merrill is a psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, and young adults with intellectual and neurodevelopmental disabilities as well as other social, learning, and behavioral challenges. Dr. Merrill provides diagnostic evaluations and intervention services. In both individual and group therapy settings, Dr. Merrill works with individuals to enhance social skills, reduce challenging behaviors, and support independent living skills. In addition, Dr. Merrill has a background in school psychology and supporting academic success in the classroom.
Joseph Risch has been with the Indiana’s Department of Education serving as the state’s authorized reading specialist trained in dyslexia since June of 2018. Prior to this Joseph was a special education teacher for nine years and a special education instructional coach with the Indiana University School of Medicine for two year.
