Working with Trauma: Clinical, Legal, and Ethical Considerations
The ability to understand and develop skills for working with clients with histories of trauma exposure has never been more important or timely, following the collective trauma and disproportionate impacts of a global pandemic. Trauma is increasingly being considered one of the most significant public health issues of our time and mental health professionals are on the front lines of working to minimize its effects on people's lives. However, there are important additional ethical considerations and risks that come with treating traumatized clients. This workshop is designed to help new and seasoned clinicians increase their awareness and competence in managing complex ethical and clinical issues when working with trauma.

Learning Objectives
1.    Describe the added impact of trauma on several common clinical and ethical situations.
2.    List three ways that history of trauma exposure could impact clinical and ethical work with children and adolescents.
3.    List three ways that history of trauma exposure could impact clinical and ethical work with adults.
4.    Identify common factors that increase risk of legal or disciplinary involvement when working with traumatized patients/clients.
5.    Explain the impact of vicarious traumatization and the importance of self-care.
