Please share with Psychology students. All are welcome! This webinar will probably be most relevant to PhD/PsyD students in clinical or counseling psychology programs who are about to start the internship application process.

Program Description:  Internship Applications 101
During this virtual webinar, participants will hear about the personal experiences of Indiana clinical and counseling psychology doctoral students who have gone through the internship application process and successfully matched. This webinar will be presented in a moderated panel format. 

Moderator Bio: Alexis Pandelios, MS, IPA Student Committee Chair
Alexis Pandelios (she/her) is a fourth-year counseling psychology doctoral student at Indiana University-Bloomington studying under the mentorship of Dr. Joel Wong and Dr. Mary Waldron. Alexis has completed research projects focused on substance use initiation among Black American youth. Currently, Alexis’ research is focused on gratitude-based interventions for depression and interpersonal dynamics in gratitude exchanges. Currently, Alexis is serving as the Assistant Director of IU Bloomington’s Center for Human Growth where she provides counseling services and supervises masters and doctoral-level counseling students. Upon completion of her training, Alexis hopes to secure an academic position in a university setting. In her free time, Alexis enjoys running, baking, and reading in her hammock.

Panelist Bio:  Danielle Abel
Danielle is a fifth-year doctoral student in the clinical psychology program at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Danielle received her B.A. in psychology from Villanova University in 2016 and worked as a research assistant in the Division of Schizophrenia Research at Rutgers University until 2018. Since moving to Indiana, she has earned her M.S. in clinical psychology from IUPUI en route to her PhD. Danielle works in the Cognition, Language, and Affect in Serious Psychopathology lab with Dr. Kyle Minor. She has developed an emerging program of research focusing on how social and emotional impairment manifest in the daily lives of those with schizophrenia. Her research uses ambulatory methods such as ecological momentary assessment to measure to daily functioning and gain a more nuanced understanding of social deficits in schizophrenia. Eventually, Danielle hopes to help identify precise treatment targets to treat social dysfunction in this population.

Panelist Bio:  Laurie Chin
Laurie is a 4th year PsyD student at the University of Indianapolis. She graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Adult & Aging Development. Upon entering UIndy's PsyD program, her primary interests included geropsychology, neuropsychology, and Asian American mental health. Her practicum experiences have included Purdue University CAPS, IU School of Medicine's Department of Neurology, and the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. Laurie has been actively involved in numerous local and national professional organizations, but her most notable project was serving as an APA Office on Aging Intern, where she worked on a task force revising the APA's Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Older Adults. In July, she will start her predoctoral internship at the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System in the Neuropsychology Track where she will be conducting neuropsychological assessments, geriatric driving safety consults, reminiscence therapy, and health disparities research.

Panelist Bio:  Alexis Grant
Alexis Grant is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis. Her research focuses on chronic pain, opioid risk assessment, and disparities in healthcare. She is passionate about treating chronic pain from a whole health perspective and is looking forward to internship next year at the Connecticut VA. Alexis currently lives in Indianapolis with her husband, David, and her bernedoodle, Cedric.

Lauren has a background in literature and philosophy, as well as rehabilitation counseling. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the Counseling Psychology program at Indiana University, Bloomington. She matched at Notre Dame for the 2023-2024 internship year.

Panelist Bio:  Danielle Schwartz Miller, MS 
Danielle Miller (she/her) is a Counseling Psychology PhD Candidate at Ball State University, specializing in Health Psychology. Her clinical and research interests are focused on psycho-oncology, quality of life, psychosocial outcomes after bariatric and transplant surgery, and health equity. Danielle's dissertation investigates the relationship between perceived physician empathy and health-related quality of life among young adults with cancer. Danielle is thrilled to have found a niche for herself in health psychology, broadly, and looks forward to a career as a leader, clinician, and educator in an academic hospital. She will be starting her psychology residency at Yale School of Medicine in the Behavioral Medicine Service!
