Mental Health and Performance Enhancement in Sport Psychology: Two Sides of the Same Coin
This presentation will focus on the field of sport and performance psychology. More specifically, we will go over the various educational paths one could take toward becoming a sport psychologist and/or mental performance consultant and how this may impact the services one could provide. Furthermore, we will review how sport psychology services could be beneficial for anyone in a performance role, whether they be an athlete or someone in a non-athletic role. Once we provide this overview, we intend to cover various models of sport psychology service delivery (e.g., private practice, embedded positions), the similarities and differences in working with different levels of athletes (e.g., youth athletes vs. professional athletes), and the challenges faced in these contexts. Finally, we intend to shed light on some of the unique concerns faced by sport psychologists as it pertains to navigating the athletics environment and how issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion may manifest in an athletic setting.

Learning Objectives
By completing this program, participants will able to:
1.    List the differences between a clinical sport psychologist and a mental performance consultant.
2.    Summarize the educational path towards becoming a clinical sport psychologist.
3.    Summarize the settings a sport psychologist may work in.
4.    Describe the mental health model of sport psychology.
5.    Describe unique diversity, equity, and inclusion matters in sport settings.
