Advanced Training: Managing the Evaluation and Treatment of Injured Workers in the Indiana Worker's Compensation System
Evaluation and treatment of injured workers requires psychologists to interact with the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board and the statutes that guide any treatment provided. This advanced training workshop will outline the Indiana system and discuss the role of psychologists in performing evaluations and treatment.

Learning Objectives: 
By completing this program, participants will able to:
1.    Describe the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board.
2.    Utilize case examples and current research for evaluating claims related to work injuries.
3.    Describe differences between forensic and treating roles.
4.    Apply standard psychological principles and assessment techniques to properly assess psychological injuries.

Presenter Bio:  Gregory T.  Hale, Ph.D., HSPP 
Gregory T.  Hale, Ph.D., HSPP is a licensed psychologist providing consultation and psychological services for individuals, attorneys, physicians, insurance companies, and manufacturing and service companies. As a forensic psychologist he evaluates and reviews cases of physical, mental, and emotional injury in employment claims. He has evaluated employment issues, fitness for duty, criminal responsibility, competency to stand trial, personal injury, workers compensation, battered woman syndrome, risk assessment, workplace violence, and sentencing issues. He conducts Forensic Psychological Examinations (FPE) and Independent Medical Examinations (IME) for the purpose of evaluating workers compensation cases and assigning permanent partial impairment (PPI) ratings. He has extensive training in Forensic Psychology, including the evaluation of personal injury cases, workplace violence, employment litigation, and using and interpreting psychological testing. He has provided psychological evaluation and court testimony in a variety of civil and criminal cases. He has given numerous presentations and seminars on the psychological aspects of personal and work related injuries.

Presenter Bio:  Fred Unverzagt, Ph.D., HSPP
Fred Unverzagt, Ph.D., HSPP is Professor of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Southern Illinois University, internship at Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex, and residency (clinical neuropsychology) at Medical College of Wisconsin. His research is focused on dementia and includes cross-national studies of risk factors and clinical trials of treatments. He is PI or Co-I on 9 NIH grants currently, has over 215 peer-reviewed publications, serves on the editorial board of Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society and Current Alzheimer Research, and is reviewer for 29 journals including, Neurology, JAMA, Lancet, and BMJ. He served as President of the Indiana Psychological Association, Treasurer for the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, and board member for the Association of Post-doctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 40) and the National Academy of Neuropsychology and recipient of the Indiana University Trustee Teaching Award, the Gordon A. Barrows Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in Indiana (Indiana Psychological Association), Janet E. Rafferty Scientist-Practitioner Award (Southern Illinois University at Carbondale), Distinguished Alumni Award for Career Achievement (Southern Illinois University at Carbondale), and Outstanding Mentoring in Psychology (Indiana Psychological Association).

Indiana State Psychology Board and Indiana Behavioral Health Board:
  • IPA is an approved provider of Category I continuing education for psychologists.
  • IPA is an approved provider of Category I continuing education for LSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMFTA, LCAC and LAC.
Licensees must judge the program’s relevance to their professional practice. Non-Indiana licensees are also advised to check with their state's licensing board to assure their state accepts continuing education programs approved by entities approved by the APA.
 
We ask that all participants watch the entire recorded presentation, and complete the post-program evaluation form and homestudy test at the conclusion of the program. Drs. Hale & Unverzagt and IPA have not received any commercial support for this program or its contents and will not receive any commercial support prior to or during this program.
 
CE certificates will be distributed via email within two weeks after a passing test (75+%) is submitted.
